Hello Jim,
My name is Kristian Olarte and I wanted to take this time
to thank you and let you know the value of my training at
ATP. I was a student in the Sacramento school from April
through July. I expected a lot of the school because I have
heard so many praises from past students on how
comprehensive the flight training is at ATP. I had one
instructor in Sacrament, John Cortez. I am glad that I had
a chance to be his student before he got his big chance at
the cargo company he is with right now.  John was very
professional as well as concerned about his students. He
was not just an instructor but he was also a friend. I
remember the first lesson me and my partner in training had
with him. He first introduced himself and explained his
background in aviation then gave us a chance to share ours.
I thought that was a very nice way to start a student
instructor relationship because I believe it is easier to
teach students when you know where they are coming from and
what they expect from you. From the very first ground
lesson I noticed that John was maybe the most knowledgeable
instructor I have ever had, which was comforting because it
showed me how credible he was. He answered most of my
questions and if he was not sure of an answer, he made sure
that I got the information another way. During the sim
sessions, he made sure that we learned the maneuvers and
techniques before we flew the aircraft so that when we
finally flew it came easier to us. Overall I think that all
the instructors at the Sacramento school were very
knowledgeable and also had good rapport with their students
which made it a very good learning environment.

When I attended CFI School in Las Vegas, I was also very
impressed by the teaching methods of all the instructors.
Like John, they were all very knowledgeable and helped me
greatly in learning how to instruct students of my own.
Frank was a great instructor. He was very thorough and made
sure that all the students were ready for the next step.
CFI school was very rigorous but if it wasn't for the
instructors, I would not have been confident about
proceeding to the next level which was testing for my
instructor certificates.

I am currently at Gulfstream International Airlines working
the line as part of their first officer program. The
training was rigorous but I believe that without the
training at ATP it would have been a lot more challenging.
The profiles and procedures I learned at ATP were very
similar to the ones at GIA and I think for a lot of other
airlines. The time I spent at ATP was very helpful in
transitioning from general aviation to a FAR Part 121
airline.

I would definitely recommend ATP to new pilots looking to
make a life out of an airline career. The training at ATP
has had a great impact to what I am doing right now and
what I want to do in the future in commercial aviation. If
I had a chance later on I would want to become an
instructor for ATP so that I can give the same kind of
guidance to some of the upcoming and aspiring pilots of the
future. I want to thank you again for the great program you
have at ATP and I hope to someday be able to represent ATP
as an instructor.
